delectable chocolate milk

Makes 2 pints of liquid joy

  • 2 pints organic whole milk, in the bottle
  • 2tsp vanilla extract
  • 8-10 tablespoons Green&Blacks chocolate powder
  • 2 heaped tablespoons good quality decaffeinated instant coffee
  • Granulated sugar
  • 100ml hot water

Drink 125ml of the milk from the bottle, this will make space for the chocolate syrup to fit perfectly.

Put the chocolate powder, coffee and sugar into a jug and add the hot water. Stir briefly then leave to stand for a couple of minutes so that the coffee granules and sugar dissolve. They will not dissolve in the cold milk later on so it is important to let it all melt in. If you don't then you end up with nasty bits and pieces of raw coffee in the bottle.

Add the vanilla extract to the remaining milk in the bottle. Once the chocolate syrup is nicely smooth and lump free, pour it into the milk bottle. If you drank exactly the right amount of milk then the contents of the jug should fit perfectly into the bottle.

Pour some of the milk back into the jug to rinse out every last drop of chocolate syrup then pour it back into the bottle. Waste not want not!

Best served very cold from the fridge and shaken to add a little frothy top. I just can't stop drinking the stuff...

coffee tip

Don't use coffee with caffeine in it because it requires about four cups to get the right taste. I have in the past made up a bottle of this stuff, drunk the whole thing in an evening then been up on a coffee buzz to 4.30 am. You have been warned.
